Many people are wondering if they will receive another stimulus check or other financial relief from the IRS this year.

Recently, former President Donald Trump suggested the idea of sending a rebate check to American taxpayers, but said the main goal is to pay down the nation's debt. At this time, nothing is confirmed.

Is a Fourth Stimulus Check Coming in September?

Right now, there is no sign that the government will send out a fourth stimulus check. For any new stimulus payments to happen, Congress would need to approve them, and currently, this is not expected to happen soon.

Here’s a reminder of the past stimulus payments:

The first check provided up to $1,200 for individuals and $2,400 for married couples, plus $500 for each child under 17.
The second check offered up to $600 for individuals, $1,200 for married couples, and $600 per child under 17.
The third payment was $1,400 per eligible person, with married couples getting an extra $1,400 for each qualifying dependent.

The deadlines to claim or file for these earlier stimulus checks have now passed. For the third and last stimulus payment, the filing deadline was April 15, 2025.

This date was also the last chance to claim the $1,400 Recovery Rebate Credit for 2021.

Checking Your Tax Refund Status

If you’re waiting for your tax refund, you can check the status using the “Where’s My Refund?” tool on the IRS website. To find your refund, you’ll need:

Your Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer ID Number (ITIN)
Your filing status
The exact amount of your refund

The refund tracker will show one of three messages:

Return Received: The IRS got your tax return and is reviewing it.
Refund Approved: Your refund has been approved and the IRS is preparing to send it out.
Refund Sent: The IRS has sent your refund either to your bank or by mail. Direct deposits usually take about five days; mailed checks might take a few weeks to arrive.
